Happy Faces -  Face Painting with Abrakadoodle

facepaintingGet your face painted with country flags, animals, or other designs! This tent offers multiple stations staffed by trained face-painters. For children of all ages.

Instrument Petting Zoo by the City of Fairfax Band & AYPO

ipzChildren can touch and play instruments of all kinds and learn about symphonic and other kinds of Western music. This activity is led by the American Youth Philharmonic Orchestra (AYPO) and the City of Fairfax Band.

 

Mosaic Mural with artist Hillary Sloate

mosaicsChildren will be able to work on mosaic murals and mirrors from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Artist Hillary Sloate will be present on both days to explain the mosaic process.

Hillary exhibits nationally, with work in private collections, museums, and public sites. She is on the faculty at the Worcester Art Museum, MA, and teaches at numerous schools and art centers. She is on the Teaching Artist Rosters of Montgomery (MD), Arlington (VA), and Fairfax (VA) counties. Hillary is on the Board of Trustees of the Society of American Mosaic Artists, serving as Chair of the Education Committee. You can find out more about her art work at www.hillarymosaic.com.

 

National Park Service Jr. Ranger Program

npsLearn about the park you’re standing in—Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts—by stamping images of the special places in the park to complete the illustrated map.

 

Passport Zone - Travel Around the World

passportAt the Festival, children can pick up a passport and travel the world through different arts activities. When children finish an activity, their passport is stamped with a sticker. Passports and arts activity information are available at the passport zone located in the middle of the meadow.

Print Your Festival Poster with artist Heather Schmaedeke

posterprintingChildren will be able to print their own festival poster with a unique design representing the featured international countries Mexico and Poland.  You will print with water based inks on archival fine art paper. The printing process itself only takes seconds and the silkscreened poster provides an in depth experience for children and adults in the world of printmaking.

 

Toddler Time with Art in Hand

toddlertimeWatch your toddler painting on an oversize floor mural. Listen to stories and relax underneath the tent. This tent is designed by Art in Hand and located near the Global Stage. Perfect for children four and under. You can find out more about Art in Hand at www.artinhand.org

 


At this Festival, it’s unique in that the audience turns from spectator to participant and you experience arts education while having fun!
